Brief Description of Case Type: 
The PPIA protects health and welfare of consumers by ensuring that poultry products are wholesome, not adulterated, and properly packaged, marked and labeled. Disciplinary proceedings for violations of the Act under these sections may lead to quarantine or condemnation of poultry products, withdrawal or suspension of USDA inspection services for a period or indefinitely, or prohibition on use of false or misleading labels, markings or containers. For imminent threats to public health or safety (such as shipping adulterated products), FSIS make take immediate, temporary action pending hearings.
