Brief Description of Case Type: 
Proceedings in which a person, entity, or state/local government may challenge HUD's charge of discrimination under the Fair Housing Act. related to sale or rental of dwellings, related services, or availability of real estate-related transactions. Prohibited discrimination includes discrimination on the basis of : color, familial status, disability, national origin, race, sex, and retaliatory actions. Relief/sanctions, if charge is sustained, include: elimination of discriminatory practices; remedial actions; reporting and monitoring requirements; and monetary relief for aggrieved persons. (Note: HUD charge comes at the end of complaint process that includes investigation and conciliation process. After charge issues, aggrieved party, respondent, or HUD (if filed complaint) have 20 days to election civil action in lieu of administrative processing. Default is administrative process.)
