Scheme Nickname:
Repayments based on audits

A presidential candidate, committee, host committee, or municipal fund may receive funds certified from the Presidential Election Campaign Fund for presidential campaigns and nominating conventions. As well, a presidential candidate or committee may receive funds certified from the Presidential Primary Matching Payment Account. After such presidential campaign or convention, the FEC conducts audits to determine whether candidates, committees, host committees, or municipal funds have received funds to which they are not entitled, either by overpayment or for things disallowed under the Presidential Election Campaign Fund Act or cannot be matched under the Presidential Primary Matching Payment Account. Based on the audit, the Commission notifies the candidate, committee, host committee, or municipal fund of its repayment determination, as well as gives them the opportunity to dispute the determination. A candidate, committee, host committee, or municipal fund may dispute the determination orally or in writing. After the hearing, the Commission issues a final decision.
